All that is set to change if a proposal by the major telecom companies, that will allow them to charge subscribers for the calls made to their respective Customer Care is accepted by TRAI(Telecom Regulatory Authority of India).
Service providers say that they have to incur huge operational costs because the majority of the calls made by the subscribers are for ‘enquiry’ purpose and not related to ‘grievances/complaints’. They plan to charge enquiry related calls while genuine complaint related calls will be free.
Moreover the much hyped Do-Not-Call registry has been planned to be scrapped, and instead a Do-Call registry will be introduced wherein only those who have registered will be getting telemarketing calls.
